Hilary Duff is starring in a new slasher movie called The Haunting of Sharon Tate. She plays the titular actress who was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she and her friends were tragically murdered by Charles Manson’s followers in her LA home in 1969 (her then husband Roman Polanski was in Europe at the time). In this version Duff talks in a goofy old-timey accent (not unlike Blake Lively in Age of Adaline) about visions of her imminent death but in typical horror movie fashion, everyone gaslights her.

Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls) is co-starring as Jay Sebring. Hilariously, Abigail Folger, heiress to the Folger empire, will be played by Lydia Hearst, heiress to the Hearst empire and daughter of PATTY HEARST. Coincidentally I just thrifted American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin, which I can’t wait to read.

The Haunting has already been slammed by Sharon Tate’s sister Debra as “tacky, tacky, tacky.” Preach, sis. Debbie, who owns the rights to Sharon’s likeness, also debunked rumors that Sharon had a premonition that she was going to die. According to Page Six, the film was inspired by a quote she gave in an interview a year before she was killed “wherein she reveals having dreams about ghosts haunting her house and foreseeing her own death at the hands of a satanic cult.”

The Haunting has no relation to Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in which Margot Robbie will portray Tate. This is another out of the FOUR MOVIES about the Manson Family murders that will be coming out in the next year. While I’m way more interested in seeing Once Upon a Time, big ups to The Haunting for focusing on the female victim, however untrue the story is.
